Off the back of the huge interest shown in the original 7in-screened Eee PC, Asus is hoping for a repeat performance with its latest 8.9in-panelled Eee PC 900 on show at CeBIT.

As well as the increased screen size the new '9in' version of the Eee is also purported to boast an improved 1,024 x 600 resolution, will come with 1GB of RAM and offer storage options up to 12GB. While official details about its internals are yet to surface, rumour has it that it might use an Atom processor, as opposed to the Celeron in the 7in version.

Externally, however, the chassis is not much bigger than the 7in Eee PC, although thickness is increased. Likewise the keyboard appears to be the same although the touchpad is bigger, no doubt to accompany the larger higher resolution screen. Asus is also touting the Eee PC 900 as Windows-ready, though it doesn't specify if it will come with the Microsoft OS pre-installed.

Price-wise the new Eee will start from €399 (£300) which isn't that much of a premium over the £220-odd asking price of the current model. Availability is slated for summer this year, even though we arguably don't have one in the UK, so keep a weather eye on the horizon.
