It's a curious notion, but I don't think I will ever get tired of hearing about the latest development to the Asus Eee PC. Whether it's a larger screen, larger capacity or rumours of a touch screen version soon to be available I'm happy to lap up the information. And yes, the quick witted among you will have picked up that I did just say that the current rumblings are that a touch screen fitted Eee is on its way - interesting no?

It is DigiTimes once again that has the scoop, citing its sources as touchscreen manufacturers and related companies. According to these sources the upcoming refresh to the Eee PC will see it coming in eight, nine and ten inch sizes and that the nine inch system will be fitted with a four-wire resistive touchscreen. Excitingly, the new functionality is suggested to add a mere $15 to the cost of each machine so though there is likely to will be a mark-up over the original Eee, the new model should still hit a relatively budget price range.

The benefit of having a touchscreen on the Eee is, of course, fairly questionable seeing as the sub-notebook isn't exactly difficult to use as it is, but the nerd inside is telling me to shut up and save up and I'm inclined to listen. Hopefully if this rumour plays out we'll see the already thriving Eee PC Linux community churn out a whole new raft of programs designed to take advantage of the new input. We might even see a version sporting Windows XP's Tablet Edition.
