What a wonderful idea the Eee PC turned out to be. We loved it in our review and now it is official: the world loves it too.

Asus has confirmed that sales of the hack-tastic little laptop have exceeded 350,000 units worldwide in under three months. This is far ahead of even the most optimistic of third party expectations which estimated 300,000 machines may sell by the end of the year.

Even better for Asus, it looks like the only way is up for the adorably diddy model since a Japanese launch will occur in Q1 2008 while major US retail chain Best Buy is going to begin stocking the Eee PC at roughly the same time. Furthermore a 16GB edition is on its way as well as the larger 10 incher Hugo wrote about last month plus a variety of new colour options.

Of course given the Eee PC's incredible success it is likely the ultra-portable, ultra-low cost laptop market will swell rapidly in 2008. This makes perfect sense, it also makes the UMPC look rather silly...
