Having fallen short of both its planned $100 price tag and July launch, it must be reassuring for supporters of the One Laptop Per Child scheme to finally have a date for their diaries as to a full scale release.

Alongside this launch the (horribly named) 'Give 1 Get 1' program will also debut, which will allow you to purchase an 'XO' of your very own, on the proviso that you also pay for one to be sent to a child in one of the developing countries the OLPC foundation is supporting. The package will cost you $399 and is almost certainly less immoral than a similarly costly iPhone.

If you don't fancy an XO of your own, there is also the option to simply donate a machine, at a cost of $200. Orders will be taken from the 12th to the 26th of November only, presumably due to the limited number of XOs available. Supposedly the first 25,000 orders will have a guaranteed pre-Christmas delivery, which should indicate the amount of machines available.

Whether you're interested or just curious, the moment of truth is almost here and I for one look forward to seeing how the intended recipients of the laptops take to their new toys.
