If you thought the use of an SSD in Sony’s TZ12VN was interesting, wait until you see what Alienware has done. Throwing aside, as ever, usual conventions of cost, the US Alienware site now offers not one, but two, 32GB SSDs in RAID 0 inside its m9750, m9700 and m5550. If that amount of hard-drive space isn’t enough, you can also specify a 32GB SSD boot disk backed up by a 200GB secondary hard-drive for storage. The latter is probably the more practical choice, offering the improved system performance without compromising data storage.

If you’re pondering the price then you probably can’t afford any of the systems with this configuration. For the curious though, you’ll be adding $500 for a single drive or $920 for the RAID 0 pair; so clearly you’d be mad not to double up and save your $80! These options are all available now if you happen to live, or be holidaying, state-side and have money to burn. If you felt there was something missing from the fastest laptop we've tested to date, you know what to do.
