While Dell was the first Intel die-hard to break the mould and embrace AMD Toshiba has just followed in its footsteps.

“Extending our supplier agreements is a very positive move for consumers who will benefit from a greater choice of notebook suited to their own needs and wishes,” said Alan Thompson, Tosh's Executive VP. “Toshiba can now supply new markets and channels partners, which will have a significant positive effect on its business and market position and I strongly believe that it will make a competitive difference in this ever more frenetic and fast-moving business.”

Sadly, Tosh hasn't disclosed which of its Satellite notebooks will be on the receiving end of AMD's wares but they will begin appearing from Q3 this year. It remains to be seen whether it goes down the Dell route of picking AMD CPUs for its budget ranges to cut costs or decides to pitch them as genuine alternatives right across its ranges.

Ironically – from a technological standpoint – AMD is currently at its biggest disadvantage to Intel for many years but, significantly, its processors remain cheaper.

So if (for some particularly odd reason) you've been desperate to own a Toshiba laptop but only if it came with an AMD CPU there's not much longer to wait. Until then you can fill in your time playing with your extensive collections of Airfix models and semi automatic weapons...
