We have some MacBook news this week, it's interesting – but not that interesting...

On the plus side impending owners can expect the latest models to come with a 2GHz CPU (or 2.16GHz CPU when purchased in black), 1GB of RAM, an 80GB HDD and 802.11n wireless – which is increasingly becoming an industry standard (the IEEE Standards Association be damned).

The bad news is that the new MacBooks list a 667MHz Frontside Bus (FSB) which means Apple has at this moment in time decided against introducing Intel's swanky new Santa Rosa platform and all the benefits it brings.

That said, the models are keenly priced starting at just £699 and still featuring such goodies as a 13.3 widescreen display, Bluetooth 2.0 with EDR (Enhanced Data Rate), Gigabit Ethernet, a built-in iSight web camera and bundled Apple remote with Front Row.

"The MacBook is a huge hit with customers, and is one of the reasons that Mac sales are growing three times faster than PC sales," said Philip Schiller, Apple's Senior VP of Worldwide Product Marketing in a provocative statement which shows how he earned the title. "The new MacBook is faster, has even more memory and storage, and is an ideal notebook for customers' growing library of digital music, photos and movies."
