We've seen this form factor before (Flybook has been a long term fan) but now Philips has launched its own variant.

The X200 "Longneck" is available immediately and will initially be exclusive to PC World (both online and in store). The clear highlight of the notebook is its extendible 12.1in widescreen display which should make the viewing experience far more comfortable when working for long periods.

Elsewhere the X200 is powered by an Intel Core Duo U2500 (1.2GHz) Ultra Low Voltage (ULV) processor and the company's integrated GMA 950 graphics chipset with 128MB of dedicated memory. There's a gig of RAM, a 100GB hard drive and dual layer DVD writer plus a 1.3 megapixel web camera in the screen bezel. The X200 also ships with a copy of Windows Vista Home Premium.

As the specification suggests, the X200 is a relatively affordable machine and comes with an £849.99 price tag.

I'll admit, I have some doubts whether a laptop with a 12.1in screen is really the device users are likely to spend numerous hours in front of (if you do, my commiserations) but, then again, it could be just the first of many...
