The V1 may only have hatched in August but in technology terms that means it is already due a successor with a very logical name…

The ‘V2’ picks up where the V1 so ably left off with a choice of Intel Core 2 Duo processors (T5500 to T7600) at its beating heart, an ATI Mobility Radeon X1450 graphics card, a WXGA+ 14.1in widescreen display, wireless a/b/g and Bluetooth 2.0 EDR.

Where it kicks on from its predecessor however is in connectivity and portability with the V2 now boasting built-in HSDPA (possibility the most useful laptop addition since WiFi) and a slimmed down weight of just 2.3kg.

A built-in 240 degree swivel webcam further enhances the machine’s value on the road and topping it all off is biometric fingerprint authentication, Asus’ Security Protect Management (ASPM) software and SSO (Single Sign On) for convenient one-time login.

As usual with Asus announcements there were no pricing or release details but by now we can take it as read that the machine will surface within the next six weeks for a competitive price (I’m thinking sub £1,400). We like Asus, we do.

Update: Damn, I'm good! The official RRP will be £1,399. Bargain.
