Apple MacBook Also Adds Core 2 Duo

‘Better late than never’ is a saying which is well suited to Apple’s MacBook processor updates but at least they’re here now.

Starting from the same £749 price tag as previous Core Duo machines, the new MacBooks swap out the 1.83GHz or 2GHz Core Duo CPU for identically clocked Core 2 Duos. Graphics are still Intel’s naff GMA950 and entry level specs are unmolested: 512MB RAM, 60GB HDD, combo optical drive and wireless g.

If you come from richer blood however most of these components can be upgraded with a new top of the line 200GB hard drive the highlight. Interestingly, Apple has played down its rather daft ambitious performance claims this time after boasting the switch to Core 2 Duo in the MacBook Pros yielded a potential 39 per cent speed increase (when facing downhill with the wind behind). Real world testing showed this to be closer to 10 per cent.

These (moderately) upgraded MacBooks are available immediately. Grab them while they’re, err… lukewarm.
