Asus has been making pretty darn good kit for just about every company ever to sell a PC and more recently it has also been making pretty darn good kit for itself. Here are three more examples…

The R1 Tablet and new V1 and F2 series laptops all jump on the thunderous Core 2 Duo bandwagon. The trio are available with a choice of T5500, T5600, T7200 and T74000 processors and while the Tablet gets a nice 13.3in WXGA screen, the other two take things up a notch being fitted with 15.4in widescreen displays with SXGA+ res-es.

WiFi comes as standard all round and the R1 and V1 (below left, right) can swallow second hard drives while the F2 goes more for the VoIP market by integrating a 1.3MP webcam. As you’d expect with a Tablet the R1 has to put up with integrated graphics (from Intel’s 945GM chipset), the F2 has the option of either an ATI Mobility Radeon X1400 or X1450 and the V1 is king of the hill with an X1600 that sports 256MB VRAM and up to 512MB using HyperMemory.

Security is a major focus across the board with the trio all sporting fingerprint readers and connectivity is broad too with each model featuring 10/1000 Ethernet, Bluetooth, 3x USB2.0, an Express Card slot and card readers. As you would expect the R1 is the lightweight of the pack at just 1.98Kg with the V1 and F2 clearly munching the same greens coming in at a taught 2.7Kg each.

Price and availability remain more closeted than Tom Cruise but given their perfectly sensible specifications and Asus’ track record I can’t imagine them appearing much later than September. With one truly mad parent, a similar public outing is unlikely to be said of Suri Cruise…
