Gauntlets can be found on the ground all around you folks because the next generation of SLI laptop graphics has arrived.

Dell’s newest baby Alienware is the company/subsidiary first to make the announcement this time around with its Aurora m9700 machine capable of boasting dual 256MB nVidia GeForce Go 7900 GS graphics cards. The pair are ably supported by an AMD Turion 64 processor (AMD is turning up increasingly on laptop gaming rigs), a choice of 1,440 x 900 or 1,920 x 1,200 widescreen 17in displays, up to 240GB of storage (using two 120GB HDDs in RAID 0 array) and a maximum of 2GB RAM.

Amongst the other cherries are an integrated TV tuner, full size keyboard with separate numeric keypad, dual layer DVD rewriter, WiFi, Bluetooth, a 4-in-1 memory card reader, support for high definition audio with surround sound and the option to install Windows Media Center Edition 2005 (at times a blessing, at times a curse).

Prices for an SLI configuration start from as low as $2,398 before taxes but I’d suggest you push the boat out for a greater supporting cast than a 1.8GHz Turion, 512MB of RAM, a 60GB hard drive and a CD rewriter!
