The whole point of having an incredibly portable notebook is so that you can use it on the move. The great irony is that no ultra portables have integrated 3G networking, until now…

The latest Flybook range from Holbe Dialogue UK solves this problem. Called the V series (which sounds familiar) there are two models – the V33i (above) and V23i – and both weigh in at just 1.2Kg and each sport rotateable wide aspect 8.9in 1024 x 600 resolution displays with added touchscreen functionality allowing the machines to double up as Tablet PCs. Connectivity options are excellent with Bluetooth, Wireless and now added EDGE support for on the go broadband speeds of up to 238.8Kbps.

A 1.1GHz Pentium M is fitted to the V33i with a ultra low power 600MHz Celeron M in the V23i. Graphics are a surprise featuring a solution from ATI with a proportionally hefty 64MB of memory. 512MB of RAM is supplied in both machines as well as 40GB hard drives and a pre-installed copy of Windows XP. Battery life is claimed to last three hours from the standard three celler with an optional six cell battery said to double this to six.

We don’t have RRPs for the V33i or V23i yet as neither is due until the summer but Riyad has the current generation Flybook in the labs now, so expect to see a review appear faster than you can say 'EDGE 2.75G technology' which, actually, isn’t that quick.
