Think Intel’s latest Napa chipset was only for those with more money than… you? Not true. Those charitable guys at AJP have managed to squeeze this cutting edge technology into a highly specced notebook and yet keep it under a grand. Ay, Caramba!

The result is the M555N and to be honest I’m still scratching my head as to how the company has done it. Follow me as I run through it and you’ll see what I mean…

We’ve an Intel Centrino Core Duo T2400 processor at the heart backed up by a full gig of DDR2 RAM and a large 100GB SATA hard drive. The display is a widescreen 15 incher with 1400 x 1050 native resolution and though the graphics card is integrated it still comes with 128MB of dedicated VRAM.

A built in 1.3 megapixel digital camera comes as standard and the connectivity options match up with the best of them, including WiFi, 10/1000 Ethernet, modem, 4-In-1 card reader, FireWire, HDTV output support, S/PDif, 3x USB2.0 ports, a DVD rewriter and free Vodafone 3G/GPRS Mobile Connect Card (worth £219).

Ok, so the snag is that the M555N bulky? Nope. It measures just 333 x 276 x 24mm (33mm at its thickest point) and weighs less than 2.5Kg so its travel friendly too. For your £998 (including VAT) there is also a three year warranty. Still not convinced? You’re clearly mad, so perhaps telling you it comes with a free carry case will do the trick? Thought so.

Grab one now, unless you’ve better things to do like talk to your cereal or paint yourself purple.
