Acer Launches 'Slider' Tablet

We may have just reviewed (and liked) an Acer tablet PC built around a traditional swivelling pivot, but apparently that’s no longer the way to do it. It’s naff, pants, so totally last week.

The company tells us what all the cool kids have moved to is the slider design and its just hit shops Stateside in two reasonably priced guises. Top of the range is the C204TMi (Pentium M 760, 1GB RAM, 100GB HDD, GeForce Go 6200) and the lower specified C203ETCi (Pentium M 370, 512MB RAM, 80GB HDD, integrated graphics). Biometric security also comes as standard on the TMi and both feature wireless, a 12.1in XGA display and 4-in-1 card reader.

Now I first saw one of these while sunning it up/working hard in Athens three months back and I can definitely say it is a more solid design than the pivot. That said, if you want to twist the screen left or right you’re screwed, so it’s swings and roundabouts. For those of you teetering on the brink of conversion Acer will retail both machines at tempting price points. The TMi costs from $1,899 and the ETCi begins at only $1,399.

One point of caution: both still have to cross the Sea of Inflation (some call it the Atlantic) without ballooning out of control. Finger’s crossed for the voyage.
