Alienware Goes Fat n Light

It’s from a line called Sentia, it weights just 2.2Kg and it strongly suggests performance computer manufacturer Alienware has gone soft, but appearances can be deceiving.

You see the Sentia m3200 12.1in 1280 x 800 widescreen laptop still packs in all of the the company’s traditional grunt. It sports a PCI Express slot, 100GB 7,200RRM performance hard drive, high definition audio and even claims to last for over four hours on a single charge during 'intensive applications'.

Against this is the fact that, while the m3200 may be light, slim it ain’t. 4.4cm is the hefty girth of this stocky machine and – at least to my eyes – it isn’t the most attractive model the company has ever produced either. Still, given that it can be loaded up with a 2GHz Pentium M processor, 1GB of DDR2 RAM, g wireless, a DVD rewriter and 4-in-1 card reader amongst other things if should appeal to those less superficial than myself.

Prices start from as low as £700, scarily affordable for a company of Alienware’s high end background, though this is obviously with the cheapest spec and jumping things up can double your outlay. A wolf in sheep’s clothing perhaps, but it could prove a nifty little purchase for the business exec who still has a little of the kid in him.

That said, I personally don’t want to see a company as wacky and downright loony as Alienware sully its bombastic reputation with a machine any more sensible than this. Here is where we draw the line. The next product to roll off its production line should have the ambience of a Harrier Jump Jet and a seven series GeForce graphics card in it, thank you very much.
