Eight hour battery life, it is the Holy Grail of mobile computing. The idea that a notebook might last us an entire working day (maybe not our working days) on a single charge is just heavenly, consequently so surprised we were when Fujitsu Siemens announced a model with a claimed 12.5 hour battery life that start talking like Yoda, we did.

Naturally enough, recovered we did (well almost) when we discovered this figure is achieved using two batteries – the second in the drive bay – rather than a superhuman single source, but even so six plus hours apiece conjures respect.

Of course, whether MobileMark will agree with the 12.5 hour proclamation is something else entirely, (though I’m glad I won’t be the poor sod faced with running the tests) and I would regard anything over nine to be more than satisfactory.

Aside from this, the C1320 laptop which houses this Kenyan-like stamina is rather dull. Sure it can house an SATA hard drive and 533MHZ DDR2 SDRAM and an express card slot, but it looks rather boring and I’d need the extra battery life so that there was still plenty of time left to work either side of the sleep its styling would regularly induce in me.

Nevertheless, the successor to the C1110 is an impressive piece of (internal) engineering and, if you want to be really exciting, go for the 15.4in widescreen display instead of the standard 15 incher. By “exciting” I mean exciting like the Volvo driver who thinks he’s a bit racy in opting for the Turbo Diesel edition.

(Yeah, I know, I’m never satisfied. I complain about all looks and no content and now I’m bitching about all content and no looks. I was a spoilt child you see…)
