So how forgiving do you think major corporations are when it comes to brand name infringement? Yes, let’s not even go there as MV (king of the stretched Hummer - private joke!), shows us its new “Ixius” (notice the extra “i” lawyers!) and “Sirius” (also a major US satelitte radio station) models which will look to do their talking on the spec sheets and not in the courts.

Most exciting in the trio of its latest machines is the legal minefield that is the Ixius 15, a smart silver and black styled gamers’ notebook built around a P4 3GHz (options up to 3.6GHz) CPU, 512MB RAM (2GB Max) and nVidia 6800 Go (upgradeable too).

Its 15in display is capable of a fantastic 1600 x 1200 (UXGA) resolution and you’ll get an 8x DVD rewriter, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi as standard. The hard drive could be a little more capacious at just 60GB, but a built in memory card reader, Ethernet and webcam help to make up for that significantly.

Best of all is the price which, at just £1,291 including VAT, suggests this could be a bit of a bargain.

The Sirius 17 is another powerful beast, this time made around the talents of AMD’s Athlon 64 processor. For £998 including VAT, you’ll get a Athlon 64 3400+, ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 128MB graphics card, 512MB DDR400 RAM, a widescreen 17in display (as the name suggests) with 1440 x 900 native res and that same slightly limited 60GB HDD.

The DVD rewriter featured in the Ixius 15 is downgraded to a CDRW/DVD-ROM combo drive but the DVD-RW is available as an optional extra (as is Bluetooth), but Wireless g, a memory card reader, Ethernet and webcam still make the standard hardware spec. 5.1 surround sound and a full size keyboard add further spice to the mix.

Finally, the Sirius AMD 15 makes a decent stab at the budget market because £586 including VAT gets you a AMD Sempron Mobile 3000+ CPU, 256MB DDR400 RAM, a 15in 1024 x 768 display, 40GB HDD, CD-RW/DVD-ROM combo drive, memory card reader, Ethernet, webcam and (surprisingly) wireless g. Potential buyers may want to boost that RAM a little, but (on paper at least) you could do a lot worse for the money.

All three MV machines are (barring a huge and ugly legal battle) available now.
