The spirit of trying to cater for everyone is normally an impossible task, but Euro-giant Fujitsu Siemens has shown off three new notebooks - covering the spectrum of budget, performance and thin and light - which may well re-write the rule.

We’ll start with the thin and light (for no other reason than it interests me the most... I’m selfish like that). The S7020 is the latest in Fujitsu Siemens long running S Series and is more bulimic than ever at just 1.75Kg, despite featuring a built in DVD writer and 14.1in display (max resolution 1400 x 1050, no less).

The new S Series has also made the hop across to Intel’s upgraded Centrino platform (Sonoma) since its last incarnation and therefore benefits from an increased Pentium M 533MHz Front Side Bus (FSB), DDR2 RAM, SATA hard drive support, upgraded 802.11 a/b/g wireless, High Definition Audio, the lot. Bluetooth comes fitted on top.

Since the S7020 is clearly designed for clocking up the miles it comes with a security panel which has five hardware buttons on it that can be used to set access codes. Touchpad and trackpoint diehards need not worry either as the S7020 features both and a magnesium/synthetic compound case is designed to dissipate heat, meaning owners should be able to avoid the nay infamous thigh burning capabilities of many of today’s machines.

There will not be a price for the S7020 until the end of May, so it's likely to be at least six to eight weeks before you'll be able to buy it. If you are looking for indicators, last June I reviewed and loved the S7010 and I used to own an S4572 so (on past form) the S7020 should certainly be worth the wait.
