Sony was also showing off its latest generation of ultra-portable notebooks. The VAIO X505 was still drawing quite a crowd, but it was the VAIO T1 series that really shone.

Even though we’d already seen the press release for the T1 series, the pictures really didn’t do this device justice. At 272 x 205 x 34mm (WxDxH) and only 1.38kg, this is a tiny notebook, but it’s still stacked full of features. The screen is superb, despite its relatively small 10.6in diagonal size – sporting a widescreen resolution of 1,280 x 768 and Sony’s X-Black coating it’s really a joy to behold. The X-Black finish really comes into it’s own when watching movies, and the T1 has some dedicated multimedia buttons for watching DVDs or playing music.

The media buttons make it easy to watch movies or listen to music.

The media buttons are accessible even when the lid is closed – ideal if you’re watching a DVD on an external screen.

Amazingly, Sony has squeezed a DVD writer in the T1, and it will burn to both DVD+R/RW and DVD-R/RW media.

On the left hand side of the chassis there’s a full array of ports including D-SUB, USB 2.0, FireWire, PC Card and MemoryStick.
