MSI might be primarily a motherboard manufacturer in most people’s minds, but the company has already made a name for itself with other products such as its graphics cards, small form-factor ‘Mega’ PCs and MP3 players. Now the company is adding to its notebook range with the announcement of the Megabook L610.

MSI is clearly billing this as an entertainment notebook, fitting it with a 15.4in TFT LCD screen and powered by a Pentium 4 Prescott up at speeds of up to 3.6GHz. It also features a 128MB ATI Mobility Radeon 9700 graphics chip, which should make it a good choice for watching DVDs and playing games. MSI also claims it will sound great thanks to a high fidelity subwoofer and SRS surround system. Unlike many notebooks the L610 also includes SPDIF output, so you hook it up to an external decoder to enjoy 5.1 channel audio.

Other features include a 4-in-1 card reader supporting Memory Stick, Smart Media, SD and MMC. There’s also four USB 2.0 ports, a Firewire connector and a PC Card slot. Wireless 54G networking is also included. Pricing for the L610 wasn’t available at the time of writing but MSI states that it will be available in September.
