you're right, it doesn't deserve a news story, so don't do one. It's appauling how it took so long to get mms, and apple will just spin this into good PR. Don't help them, or they'll do it again
I love my MacBookPro, but I hate the Apple community. When Apple correct a glaring omission, it gets applauded like the greatest event in history. The ONLY valid response to MMS on the iPhone is 'About f'ing time'.
I will stand up and defend Apple on leaving out MMS for the same reason that I do about leaving Flash support off of the iPhone.
Technology needs to move on!
MMS is a defunct technology when you have email. Yes, I know. All of your friends can receive MMS on their phone but have never got around to activating email on it because it's fiddly, awkward, and not just not worth it on such a device. But, so long as people have this attitude, MMS will never fade into the history to give email a chance.
Same with Flash. It's not needed, there are perfectly good alternative, standards compliant, technoloiges available... Accept maybe for Weebl & Bob and Foamy the squirrel... I think you still need Flash for the cartoons.
No, sorry, it was a major omission, and if its coming then that's great. Wonder why Jobsy didn't demo it at the WWDC gig though? Maybe embarrassed at the original omission. I see the point that email might be the way to go, but most of my friends use MMS and email loses the immediacy of a text.
Loses immediacy? As I recall (although I haven't used an iPhone YET), there are no more screen presses to get to a blank email than there is to get to a blank text. And if you want to spell like a six year old still, you can still do that in an email :o)
Somebody has to stand up and say no to these mid-step technologies. I respect Apple for having the balls to do it... There are few other companies that could get do it and still sell phones...
Not very many people check their email through their phone, regardless of their phone's capabilities. If I am not mistaken, text messages longer than 160 characters have to be sent via MMS. So yes, that was a major omission.
