Even now that the phone has been released, your comments are vague as ever

Vodafone are definitely releasing the phone, and there are plenty of deals on the web for Orange. Currently there is no release date for the phone on Three, other than a few pics of a poster!

I was in Milton Keynes for the 8:02 iPhone 3Gs launch at both the O2 & Apple Store.

The queue at the O2 store was about 10 people with about 25 odd outside the Apple store.

It seemed the fanboys were at the Apple store since there was much cheering and clapping at 8:02 when the store opened whereas the O2 queue was much more subdued.

I was about 8th in line and was all finished by 8:30, from speaking to the O2 guys they had about 100 units in so I'm sure it will not be a sell out. People still seemed to be queueing outside both stores at 13:00 though.

I have to say, I did question why I was queueing for a phone but it didn't take too much time out of my day and I got some free coffee from the "O2 Angels" who were wandering up and down the line :-)

I never upgraded from the original phone to the 3G so I was happy to upgrade. If I was going from a 3G to a 3Gs I would question the value of bothering.

I'm off to play with my exciting new compass now ....... ;-)

I got to the O2 store at 6:20am this morning and was first in the queue. The next person to arrive came at 8:15am (I could have stayed in bed lol). By the time the shop opened there were a massive queue of 4 people waiting for the iPhone.

I've not played with an iPhone or an iPod Touch before, so everything is new to me and i LOVE it. It is such an amazing upgrade from my Nokia E65.

My IO PLAY car kit connects to both handsfree and wireless music on the iPhone, and amazingly the sound is better quality than my Sony Sony NWZ-A828K 8GB Video Walkman.

As soon as TomTom is released I will have everything I need in one device. :-)

sorry to say no one has the N97 in stock and its not out at all it might if we are lucky be out by next weekend and also all shops i went into for the iphone all had stock and said it was not realy that busy at all.

My tent is well and truly pitched in the Palm Pre camp. Even if they offered the 3GS at half price I would still hold out. Although I hope the Pre is sensibly priced at launch, I just can't justify £200 on a contract phone. There are a handful of phones that could do a decent job and I already have a perfectly good netbook to pick up the slack. So while I am sure the 3GS is currently the best in class one must have more money than sense committing to a purchase at today's price.

@Meridius - the N97 is only available through Nokia stores today. It should appear on select networks within a few weeks.

Not if you want to rebadge the same hardware with unlocked 720p capability and sell it as "iPhone 3G X" in 6 months time!

Seriously though, maybe they did the sums and projected additional sales from 720p capability didn't stack up with codec licensing cost? Also, whether the quality from a lens the size and (low) quality of the iPhone's can do justice to 720p is very debatable - I doubt you'd see much benefit over standard def.

Is anyone surpised that apple cripple their devices so they can enable it on the next version and say its totally brand new hardware. and when they do enable it, everything thinks its a revolution, even though others have been doing it for years. (eg. copy/paste)

Apple is very good at making minor changes and then convincing people it's a major upgrade.

At the same time, we can expect a similar iphone evolution timeline coupled with ipod.
