I managed to download it from the Microsoft website the day before yesterday without any problems. It was almost at a decent speed as well, at around 1.2MB/s!
I grabbed the download on Saturday when they resumed service. I did a build on a virtual machine and it was loads faster than I expected. My host machine is Win XP laptop with 1GB ram so I could only spare 512MB for the Windows 7 guest. So I was very surprised to find IE in my virtual machine is faster and more responsive than my real machine! The UI isn't ground breaking but under the surface they have really moved the game on.
I basically consider it as a service pack for vista, therefore i was going to be brave and install it on my work pc. Mind you my plan is too take a back up of my disk image, so i can roll back. Can any testers comment on the stability? I like vista, so i am looking forward to testing out windows 7.
Very stable, though I've got nothing installed really as of yet. Also, I wouldn't bother installing it on your work PC unless you're going to dual boot it. You're only going to have to take it off again come august.
@Alex - I also loved the startup screen when I first booted Windows 7, but I'm not sure if it will start annoying me once I've seen it a few hundred times.
Also not sure about the taskbar/dock hybrid. It seems it can't make up it's mind what it wants to be, though I quite like it. I'm sure they'll polish it up before the gold release.
i've been using it for quite a while now since the day 7000 was released. I was lucky enough to grasp one before their server went down.
Made a clean install on my work pc - upgrade didnt happen smoothly for some stupid reasons. There are some compatibility issues with drivers but all sorted quite easily. So far found it really stable and fast, especially when u do multi-tasking - much better than boasted vista have to say. taskbar ui is fantastic once you get used to it, you can pin all your frequently used apps right there in a single list for quick access, even you move your files to a different location it can still locate it. im impressed.
though windows is getting more and more similar to apple, at least they are trying. overall, the experience is quite enjoyable.
