oh wow. i would like to have seen it on a netbook, you know, as a low power option, to give people a day's worth of battery life, just to type stuff.
It makes you think how unnecessarily large installs are these days doesn't it! The ridiculous size of Vista & MS Office immediately leaps to mind...
While it had it's peculiarities it's still generally the best looking windows version, I'd love to replace aero with a high resolution modern version of it.
@Steve: unnecessarily? So which bits of vista do you deem unnecessary?

xiphias: i agree with you about the beauty of this os, the icons were designed by the legendary susan kare who was also responsible for the artwork of the early macs
Seriously? There's a reason people use the phrase "but it's so three-one-one looking" to describe an ugly application. And surely Aero *is* a "high-res modern version" of it??
@66vs87: Well it did have some exceptionally ugly bits (the desktop settings for example), there are some screenshots here: http://www.guidebookgallery.org/screenshots/win31
Vista is completely different visually, by modern high-res version I meant leave it mostly how it is but add new up to date and scaleable icons in the same style and maybe tweak the interface a little.
