In 2007, the 8gig iPhone cost Apple $280 (£170) to make.(gizmodo link: http://tinyurl.com/2kdnsq) I'd be very surprised if the 3GS cost Apple even that much to make now.
Unbelievable. And iZombies will buy it! It makes me cry.
£900? Is that a joke? C'mon that's the price of a MacBook. In fact, I'm pretty sure you can get a Blu-ray laptop for less than that. Wait a minute, that's THREE PS3s?
Are there that many people with more money than sense?!
An iPod Touch 32GB is £275 so your in effect paying £625 for the phone and a few other features. Lets not forgot you could buy 3 x iPod Touch 32GBs and still have cash left over to get a phone.
Also the same phone tied to O2 costs £538.30 with a years free data and wifi so your paying about £360 for the privilege of being able to go with another network, O2 isn't that bad are they?
Even though I believe the Iphone to be the best Mobile I've ever had, £900 seems a ridiculous price to pay. When you consider you'll still need a carrier, even if Pay&Go, and of course you'll want your carrier to give you internet access, the Iphone isn't really the same without it. Going on an 18/24 month contract seems like a bargain, maybe that's Apples ploy.

well all this 3GS talk has seen a gluttony on 3G iphones pop up on flea-bay recently.
Yesterday I went weak at the knees and managed to pick up a 16GB Black 3G (4 months old with sim and data plan, mint) for £260! (and it was a local cash pick up and came with some accessories).
I don't mind being a year behind the curve on this one, popped my simplicity sim in, with 600 mins / 1200 texts and unlimited data all for £17.50 p/m on a 30 day contract - saved me a bomb! Looking forward to off-loading my 5800 as well :)

Great way to save money. All these new phones are tempting but lets face it, there's a recession on and it's hard to afford or justify paying £35/£45pm on a 2 year contract. As well as the great specs, consumers need value for money!
At least June is living up to it's promise. I'm yet to find the ideal phone - if only the 3GS had a flash and was cheaper; if only the Jet had a larger screen and was Android; if only the N97 had a better UI; if only the Palm Pre, the i7500 and LG Crystal were available in the UK now etc. etc. So c'mon guys at TR, where are all the reviews to give us the guidance we need? My head is spinning with all these choices. If you can't cope with all these great new devices and need a guest reviewer to help you out, you only have to ask :)
mega lol at that price, and the fact that it is probably not legal in the uk what play is doing. as for a sim free iphone, would still be cheaper getting a ryanair flight to italy then getting it there payg, costs about £615ish (€719) for the 32gig 3GS and €619 for the 16gig one. still expensive though, no matter what
