Well done guys, as ever! (Although I ought to point out that this is largely down to me hitting the 'refresh' button a lot more than I should)
Not really surprised by you beating the likes of Sony and Packard Bell. They aren't sites you usually add to your favourites.
I was impressed by you beating Cnet reviews though. You must be doing something right when it comes to reviews, as they review a larger quantity of items that trustedreviews yet more people come to you. What does that say? :)
Well done for the good contemt of the site, but how about some quality control on the adverts? They cause the browser to freeze for several seconds on loading every page.
Nice one lads - go grab yourselves a well earned beverage or 12 to celebrate. I think I can speak for the TR community when I say that's an order. :)
As an aside, TR's RSS feeds are now on my N85 and my Eee 900, and I'm hardly ever without one of them.
The site is also up on my workstation in my office far too often. I'm starting to run out of excuses why I've constantly got shiny gadgets on my screen when the suits stroll in... it's easy enough to explain when I'm looking at something possibly work related - laptops, PDAs, printers etc. The problem comes when I'm sat there dribbling on my spacebar looking at a 56" 21:9 AR LCD panel, or a keyboard made of frickin' lasers... it's a whole lot trickier to explain away.
Well done and well deserved. I visit TR most days for a reason.
Not to knock you in any way, but it has to be said you don't really have any competition. There's no other review sites out there that maintain any sort of quality or coverage. Cnet's a joke and always has been.
I think it's time you capitalised more on your popularity and improved the format to make the forums more active. It'd be great to post questions like "what's the best camera/phone/womble to get right now?" but there's not enough activity there to warrant that and as I said there's nowhere else. Kinda strange now that the internet is so massive that there's such a dearth of quality tech sites.
Good work guys and gals. Your 'keep it simple' philosophy is what keeps me reading your reviews - simple website layout, uncomplicated honest reviews. As for Ies's problem, Firefox with AdBlock Plus works wonders. Sorry if you advertisers don't approve, but honestly its the only way on a Pentium III "designed for Windows 98"!
I'm a bit surprised the likes of sony, packard bell, panasonic and canon are so high up. can't imagine visiting their sites except for drivers.
still well done on being top! i'm sure i must count for a huge number of those page views.
Thanks everyone. The whole team has worked very hard to make TR as successful as it is, but of course that wouldn’t be possible if you didn’t want to read what we write.
There are a lot of things planned for 2009, and much of my time will be taken up with the development of the site. I therefore won’t get to write as much as I have done in the past, which you’ll see as either a good or a bad thing!
I do promise that everything we do to TR this year will be done to make the user experience better. And yes HK, one of those things will be to integrate a focused and user friendly forum area for topics other than discussing articles.
As for manufacturer sites featuring highly in HitWise - you’d be surprised how many consumers will go directly to a manufacturer site when thinking of buying a product, which is why so many manufacturers have integrated web shops into their sites.
May I add my congratulations on the ranking. A well deserved pat on the back.
I particularly like your site for the 'clean' layout - or is that Adblock ;-), focused unbiased reviews, regular site updates ( some sites seem only to do weekly changes, easy access to the various product review groups..... and of course the opportunity for the likes of me to ramble on about our (my) fatuous opinions!
A very massive congratualtions etc to the TR team. Very well deserved.
The founding fathers, like Riyad can feel well vindicated if they already weren't when TR was bought up last year. I was a fan of TR from the first time I read it.
You guys! You are so modest you put the logos of the awards at the bottom where only about 1 in 10000000000000000 reader may see it. I suggest you relocate the logos on the right, opposite the TR logo at the top of the page.
That you are top of any comparative table deserves congratulations, and I am certainly a fan of the site. However, 2.5 million unique readers and only 19 comments on this page? Doesn't that make you think that this figure is a little unreliable?!
Not really Bluepork. It's like the silent majority theory with regards complaints to television broadcasters. If a show only receives 5 letters of complaint, it doesn't mean only five people found it offensive. There will be thousands more that also took offence but merely changed the channel instead, rather than write a letter. It's the same with comments on TR. Out of every hundred people, say, that read a review, only 1 person will have anything worth adding in the comments. Also, readership figures refer to the whole site with its 4,000 odd reviews and 5,000 news stories so they're spread far and wide (obviously a lot of these are old so won't be read much anymore but the theory still holds).
After reading my emails, news sites, and my finances, TR is next to be read, each and every day of the week, and there's a reason for it. Nice one chaps!
TR has been Number One for a long time for me, being "The IT Guy" our site, means people think I know all about anything that has electronics in it.
I direct them with a link to TR, and a few of them now check TR before asking me :) and some are avid reader!
I'd just like to add my congratulations. It's certainly deserved, but not entirely unexpected, as this is by far the best reviews site when it comes to consumer electronics and gadgets.
Congratulations TR looking forward to the innovations over the next year and as one who would like a more active forum I am pleased that you have ideas in the working.
