More dollars spent on Blu-ray hardware than DVD hardware in the US for 1H 2009. Not including the PS3 for Blu-ray, NPD count that under Video Gaming.
So on the one hand you have BD spend above DVD spend, and on the other you are the 4th largest DVD player brand in the US, but you don't have any presence in the BD market.
It must be a bit embarrassing for Toshiba to have to admit defeat against Blu-Ray, but further embarrassment having to apply to make products with a competitors licensed product. So much so they have waited all this time to do so.
