3 seems like a much better fit for a partnership. They've become known as progressives too. I really can't see how Spotify can get onto the iPhone without it being crippled or made purchase-only.
Plus Spotify really shows up what an increasingly embarrasing piece of software iTunes is - old and buggy, especially for my PC. It needs to be rewritten, and I would have thought the advent of Snow Leopard would have been good timing to give it a makeover, at least internally, as Apple say they've done with the Finder.

You would have expected the same for "last.fm" but that's there. I actually prefare "Last.Fm" to Spotify, mainly because I find it much easer to select Tag 80's and leave the hassle of creating playlists to them. :)
The idea of making it only purchase only wouldn't seem too bad, especially if only 59p, it would be nice if Apple could implement a try before you buy system first of course.
From Apple's POV, Free App's must now becoming a bit of a pain. The App still needs checking for viruses and conformity etc, and then they get zero income from it.
@Keith - "Free App's must now becoming a bit of a pain. The App still needs checking for viruses and conformity etc, and then they get zero income from it."
...apart, that is, from the gargantuan profits Apple makes from the iPhone, the huge popularity of which is driven at least in part by the proliferation of free Apps.
Even though they may get zero income from the some(most) apps. The apps store is a huge selling point to potential customers.
I have a E71 (which I love) and Ovi is pants. I was on my friends iphone and was just blow away by the sheer number of apps. Most of them pointless little things like the shotgun or the fart-noise-generator. But ti kill twenty minutes on the train they're priceless.
So I don't think apple not receiving an income app store would be as big a problem as you think.
@John, @gunholio.. Of course I understand the point of having lots of Apps is a selling point for the IPhone, that's obliviously why Apple did them in the first place. But now, I'm not sure it's really valid, there is so many Free Apps now, would it really make much difference if there were another million?. To put it another way, if there were not another thousand Apps by the end of the month, do you think it would have that much effect on Sales of the Iphone? Don't get me wrong, I'm not feeling sorry of Apple, there certainly in the black atm, but from a business POV you still need to look at things from an overall perspective.
