Great! Another load of players that look almost identical.
I'm intrigued by the inclusion of hard drives and HD recording capabilities. Are these the first non-PVR style devices that will allow you to record high definition content? Will they record/copy: 1) Blu-ray discs direct to their hard drive, 2) HD content from a Sky HD or Freesat HD box, 3) SD/HD content from other sources? If not, what's the point of the hard drive?

Orinj - your question is simple... the answer is tricky. Most Hi-Def content, either broadcast or supplied on disk is protected by a form of DRM called HDCP. HDCP basically allows the content producer/broadcaster to dictate what it's consumers can do with the video content they buy. It's early days right now, but expect mixed results (sometimes including an inability to get the record button to work at all) depending on the video source & content you're trying to record.
This is great news if you don't live in England!! The above comment says some of these models wiil reach our country, but when??!! Are we going to have to wait for the next 10 years before we actually get to catch up with the non EU countries & get bestowed with these items? which by then will be antiques!! If the reason we don't have Blue Ray recorders on sale here yet is because the companies or associations can't get there acts together to agree on standards, will we ever get them? DVD recorders with hard drives are now commonplace over here, so why not Blue Ray ? Now that the main HD format war is over, and Blue RAY seem to be going for it & with HD Freesat now available, I envisage the demand for recording HD content form Satellite etc will be far higher.I for one, have been awaiting these Blue Ray recorders preferably with built in hard drives ( and who knows a built in HD Freesat tuner or two or three etc!)ever since the launch news of Blue Ray some years ago! So come on Sony, get your act together with the industry and start producing these machines over here or at least importing them to England so we can start utilising them!
I'm familiar with the restrictions posed by HDCP but what about those Terabyte AV servers that rip all your Blu-Rays and DVDs and store them in one place.
Besides, it still doesn't tell us what on earth the hard drives in these machines will allow you to do. It may appear that these are Japanese only models so we may never get to see them.
