Geez Gordon, you keep bringing up that damn story about bad earbuds being a risk of hearing loss. You're pretty passionate about your headphones eh? :)
@Ohmz - you noticed? ;) It's a hugely important issue - or at least it will be in 10 years when the effects of bundled earphones start kicking in...
How similar do you suppose they are Dev? Do you think the rebranding is purely for the aesthetic redesign? Because I'm primarily interested in the best sub-£100 earphones. Any recommendations? (I like big bass and I cannot lie.)
I honestly reckon looking now that the CX550 are a NEW top end, while the CX400-Mark II are just rebranded 500s. I have to say i have done no research except for eyeballing the basic look and details of each so correct me if i am wrong. See below for the links, (apologies if i'm not supposed to post external links, i promise i'm not employed by play.com!)
As for my review of the CX500s:
Stronger and better put together than the 300/400s,
Noticeably better (for me) isolation on the train,
Bass is a little fuller and more detailed but still not on the same level as the sony's i used to have. That said, i prefer the sound overall for a variety of music. The CX400s are reviewed on TR and got 9/10 i think.
For the price, £18, i can't see it being beat! As you approach £100 I would look towards Shure or Etymonics, look on TR for lots of excellent reviews!
