I'm tempted to take the plunge now because of the higher specs.

Are you guys going to get your hands on one for a review? I know you did one previously, but now it looks like even better value!

I guess that depends, Ohmz, on just how different this is from the 1GB Clip we reviewed almost a year ago now: http://www.trustedreviews.com/mp3/review/2007/12/12/SanDisk-Sansa-Clip-1GB-/p1

If it's really just the same but now 8GB then we probably wouldn't bother. Having said that, for £50, it's a pretty compelling package - less than half the price of an iPod nano of the same capacity for those who don't care about video. And hate iTunes :)

I'd also suggest one advantage a Sansa Clip has over an iPod Shuffle (though I'm guessing here)... the former can actually PLAY PLAYLISTS. Personally, I HATE Shuffle mode. I listen to entire albums from Track 1 to the end. I don't want to jump around. I could see myself replacing my ageing Sansa 6GB with one of these puppies for Christmas.

What the hell? Isn't it like 1am over there? What time do you guys go to bed? If you sleep at all...

My Walkman is a great player, but I always wanted something light and convenient (clip) to carry with me when going for walks. May wait a bit until boxing day.

P.S. Does the Ogg support really make that much difference to the sound quality? I've never used Ogg before, I rip in Mp3 320kbps for compatibilities sake! If it does, I will want to get the best out of my player. I'm using Sony MDRAS50G headphones right now.

@Ohmz, yep our commitment knows no bounds! But feel free to augment our salaries for the overtime if you feel like it ;)

Ogg does help, it's basically better quality at the same bitrates - so theoretically you can either save space and encode lower (noooo, boo + hiss) or just enjoy a better standard of audio.

on the hardware side its great but for software you need to use the god awful windows media player. Itunes really is a masterclass in great software, it just works.

Although, does software like http://www.badfruit.com get around this? This software seems out of date, anyone know of any alternatives?

I used to think the same of media Player but after buying the 2GB CLIP I was very pleasantly surprised with WMP11.

BTW I cannot fault the clip on anything significant. It is a brilliant combination of function, form and price - absolutely perfect for listening to music on the move. To demonstrate the only thing I can think of to improve it is to allow the On-the fly playlists (good feature for such a player in the first place) to be exported back to WMP.

As long as the Clip supports drag and drop (so that I can use it with Linux) then that's all I care about for a clincher on something like this - it just looks and sounds like the ultimate portable player.

This does seem like an outstanding product for the price... I may well consider changing my meizu M3 for one of these... 1 question though, does the clip have any graphic equaliser settings so I can adjust the sound?

I want to be able to tweak my sound for my Crossroads Mylarone IEMs (which by the way you guys oughta do a review on - they get talked up all the time from the guys over at Heaf-Fi - cheap at £30 aswell - jaben.net)

My 4GB unit came today and i couldn't get it to work with XP on my desktop or my EEE, just got an error message "Device Not Start" when adding new hardware.

Solution: On the Sansa Clip go to the Settings Menu and change the USB mode to MSC, it worked brilliantly after that on both machines, installed no problem.

I saw this advertised on QVC, the shopping channel;if i didn't have an Ipod, I would give this some serious thought. A friend of mine bought a slightly higher spec version in the USA that could play videos - the screen was awesome: clear and crisp.

I bought this in November at a special offer from "Comet". Did not touch it until Christmas, as it was a present for my daughter - I am still absolutely amazed at the quality and the capacity at this price!

Listening to it every day at work - whether as music player, or radio. I would consider it a superior product in every respect.

Loading music cannot be simpler or faster; sound is OK with supplied headphones - fantastic with a better quality ones.
