They have Windows Mobile, Symbian and Android phones and now their own OS. What is their level of commitment to their previous phones with those OSes on them? Just makes you feel slightly snubbed. I know they are a massive company and have the resources to cover them all, and I guess this is lots of eggs in lots of baskets. But as a fairly new Galaxy owner who's wondering when Android 1.6 is coming (at the least) it makes me feel a little uneasy.
I cannot think of anything worse than a Samsung developed OS. Samsung will undoubtedly use Bada across their range of handsets even if the finished product is nothing compared with Android.
I admit I don't have the greatest knowledge on Mobile OS's, but I find whichever Samsung currently use on the Toco Ultra et al to be absolutely terrible - paired with a terrible touch screen. So with this in mind, Bada must be an improvement and that I welcome. But Samsung will use Bada regardless of its quality, since it sounds as if their footing the bill.
Samsung bada is a new open platform that enables a richer user experience in applications on Samsung mobile devices."
I take it they only want it on their devices - fair enough..
I think the biggest question for me will be backward compatibility with previously released devices which were using Saumsung's proprietary touch software? If so, i know the perfect device for this hehe..
Bizarre, why bother with Android doing so well. Why not just do like HTC and put a better UI on top to differentiate and save all the time and bother with a new operating system.
How is the underlying OS going to really offer anything different or any great improvement over Android?
Of all the major manufacturers Samsung are the worse when it comes to supporting their own handsets. Their proprietary feature phone OS is pretty clunky and silly too when compared to Nokia's S40 and Sony Ericsson's A200 platform.
Oh god not another mobile OS. Does anyone here actually like Samsungs TouchWiz UI? It puts me off their phones. I cant imagine them doing a whole OS well.

Makes me wonder what direction Samsung will be moving in, what functions could Bada perform and what features and advantages might it offer over the open Android OS and the competition? On the surface it's a strange announcement, but I bet there's a good underlying reason. Obviously financial. I just can't figure it out yet!
my god they can't even make rivaling software for their own phones and now they want to enter the OS market as a small player with limited resources, how stupid can you be? leave the software development to the big software giants like apple, google and in lesser degree microsoft...
@Jim and @J4cK1505: I believe @Syed made that joke in the third comment on this thread. Credit where credit due... but yes, you should all be ashamed and leave immediately :P.
We don't need another mobile OS! And yes, TouchWiz is infuriating and their widgets always take up too much bloody room.
