At those prices it seems that Panasonic agree with me in that a consumer-led `borrow & buy` approach is not the way to go towards real economic recovery! ;^)
The best price for blu-ray media is about £4 for 25GB. The best price for bus powered 2.5 HDD's is about £5 for 25GB. That's a small 250GB plug and go USB hard drive for £50. You'd have to be an idiot to use blu-rays as a backup or storage media. They're too little too late. In about a year flash media will catch up with the cost per GB of blu-ray media. Don't buy a blu-ray recorder, BR won't ever get far for that purpose.
Jopey you are right on the money as far as reasoning goes but the hardware manufacturers will determine what, when and where we get it.
£999 for the 500GB model and £899 for the 250GB model - £100 for 250GB: This when I just purchased a 500GB USB WD HDD for £38.99 and so I suspect the factory price is a £5-10!!
That aside given that the Panasonic DMR-EX88E can be had for £310. That makes the BR recorder very expensive and 'not' a rip off ;-)
