That seems like a massive rip off to be honest. The two monitor version definitely is. ATI's "eyefinity" thing is coming to their cards and that can do 6 30inch monitors off a single card. You can also mix and match with many different display sizes and layouts. I'd expect a dedicated solution for $2000! would do a lot more.
@Ed "Specifics on the technology are being kept close to the vest, but a recent demonstration revealed, amazingly, that it runs on only one GPU. it also features several DisplayPort connectors—In this case, six 30-inch Dell displays were configured to run as a single 7680x4800 monitor."
@Keith: Nothing but when someone says 30-inch monitor they are generally referring to a standard 30-inch monitor with a resolution of 2,560 x 1,600. It's the resolution that the card can't cope with. So when I refer to 24-inch I'm basically talking about the 1,920 x 1,200 resolution it uses.
I was fairly certain the eyefinity card couldn't do six 2,560 x 1,600 displays but looking around the web, it seems I might be wrong on this. Further research is required..
I think you're referring to the existing 3 output cards while jopey is talking about the new 5870 Eyefinity 6 cards, which aren't available yet. I think you're both right - for now ;) .
I was aware of the six port card, I was just under the impression that DisplayPort couldn't do dual-link equivalent bandwidth. More to the point, I seem to recall AMD actually saying the 6 port card couldn't do six 30 inch monitors.
Nope, I'm just going batty. AMD's documentation does indeed refer to such a setup. Nevermind.
