This is going beyond the absurd. The US price for the G11 is $499, which is about £310. The UK price is £569. How on earth do Canon think they can even justify such a huge price difference between the UK and the US? I just don't get it.

I recently spoke to an independent reatiler, apparently canon do not supply spares to anyone who cannot guarantee 50k business each year. To get one reparied you therefore have to send back to canon - minimum £150 fee...

I used to have an ixus, but decided to replace it with a Lumix.

I was very much looking forward to the release of the G11, however with the spec of the camera, I am afraid I am very disappointed. Well done for stopping the stupid megapixel war, and actually reducing it, which WILL produce better images and reduce noise.

However very bad news on the video recording, no HD? not even 720p! BUT the Canon blurb is happy to comment on the "mini hdmi" output of the camera. This will more than likely confuse the unsuspecting punter into buying the camera. There is no reason why HD video recording shouldn't have been included.

As life long user of Canon cameras, and am in need of a high end P&S with HD video recording. I can only resort to perusing the Lumix range of cameras. With the spec of the G11, Panasonic will be laughing all the way to the bank.

joose - Yes, the S90 is the one I'm most looking forward to reviewing. I had a chance to handle it at the press launch, and it definitely has that "proper camera" feel, and it makes the huge and complicated G11 look like something of a dinosaur by comparison. Canon says that the G11 is aimed at professional photographers who want a more convenient and portable alternative to their bulky DSLR, but it's almost the size of a DSLR anyway. The S90 promises similar versatility, performance and image quality, but it'll fit in your pocket.

Like the G11 being stupidly overpriced in the UK, the same is true for the S90. $429.99 does not translate to £449, that is just extortion.

While the features of the S90 do look really good, the price means I'm going to look towards the Fujifilm F70EXR or the Sony DSC-WX1 instead.

@Cliff - You've hit it right on the nail for me regarding the size of the G10 and now G11. I've only recently become more interested in the taking of photo's (my work involves photoshop) and wanted to build my skills up to getting a basic DSR. I've used other people's bridge cameras before and enjoy them but unless I was going traveling to take photo's, find them too bulky to want to own them for everyday use. I took a long look at the LX3 but decided because of cost and whether I could get enough out of the camera with my current skills to go for a second hand GR Digital to put the hours in learning some competence. I was shown around the G10 at the time and to be honest it overwhelmed me but more importantly it was massive and bulkly! To a novice like me I just think if I'm going to spend that amount of money I would go for a basic Canon DSLR as I really can't see much benefit the G10 has over one? But now with the S90, it's got the same decent insides as the G11 but can go where no DSLR can go, namely my pocket! This is the type of camera that interests me and I'm glad it's being introduced back into the market.

If canon can include wide angle (27 or 28) setting in new SX120 then it will become a great camera.

I currently have a lumix fz28. Though I like it a lot I wouldn't mind switching to canon sx20 if it can beat fz 38. after all it is a CANON!
