Does Jobs include boob/baby shaking apps in his list? What about silly crap like holding down one button for a high score?
I admit I don't own an iPhone myself, but nothing I've seen so far blows my mind and since I never see higher than a "Top 20 iPhone apps" list on any website, I'm inclined to assume that most of the 65000 is shovelware.
@DrDark - You shouldn't be so pesimistic about things that you don't know anything about. I have thus far restrained myself from comments about the winmo 6.5 and win7 experiance... As much as I would like to be bitching about them, I've not experianced them yet so could only speculate. (besides, I've read a lot of good about both...)
With regard to your generalisations, yes, there's a lot of crap. I say that, but I'm obviously missing something because despite what I think, they're popular. Even the pay-for fart apps get paid for. Whilst 'mind-blowing' is maybe not accurate there are a lot of amazing applications available for the iPhone, would you rather someone list all 65,000 in order of greatness?
@chessnuts - Microsoft are hardly branding experts, they change the name of everything that's not Windows or xBox more often than they create new services!
Firstly, just as a brief interlude, I'd prefer to be regarded as knowing "only a little about" the iPhone app store, rather than "nothing".
Secondly, I know there's crap everywhere so I'm not berating the iPhone for having shovelware. I'm berating Apple for constantly sticking the number of apps dead centre in all their ads thus just asking for my criticism as far as I'm concerned. They also won't stop referring to shooting video and copy/paste as "amazing" new features.
If you want a bitching match, I'd gladly have it, but as neither of us has copious knowledge of the other's preferences, I think we should save ourselves the effort.
you've gotta love the new iphone ads promoting the "amazing" copy/paste!
back to the story. i just don't care any more. i'm waiting for the hero to get released and i'm ditching WM until they actually release something impressive. android market had loads of great apps which actually provide useful functionality.
The Hero's fatter than it looks in the pics. Haven't had a chance to fiddle with the new UI yet though.
I'm sticking with Symbian (since I don't get "confused" by it as some people do) and my E71 until something really blows me away. The Pre looked good and the OS is enticing but the hardware's putting me off a bit. And Android's just not quite reached its potential yet; maybe by the end of this year.
@drdark - whatever you do STAY AWAY from the Samsung Jet! I've tried this handset and it's also a slow motion software car crash. It's currently holding my Most Disappointing Handset of 2009 award - and by a significant margin. It's not a patch on the E71, but then again few things are... ;)
