Um, what is the logic here when Android is FREE!? And looks to be a hell of a lot better than WM!?

I'm with Lee here, WVGA is a standard resolution of 800x480 so there's nothing ambiguous about it! Ambiguous means there's multiple interpretations. Not knowing that WVGA means 800x480 is just not knowing what it means, there's nothing else that WVGA could mean!
WQVGA is also a standard resolution as "wide quarter VGA" so 400x240 - the only ambiguity is that for higher resolutions (as in bigger than VGA!) the Q stands for "Quad" instead.

I suspect Microsoft may have paid LG, so it's actually cheaper than Android? Microsoft have a *huge* marketing budget.
At this point, we know that MS is having to rewrite a lot of WM7 as otherwise it won't be competitive with Android / Mobile OSX / WebOS - this being the case I suspect MS are pushing manufacturers to release WM6.1 and WM6.5 devices to at least try to keep the mindshare.
It's ambiguous because WVGA could mean anything from 50000x480 to 800x450, 800x480 isn't the standard resolution it is simply the most common and in a 16:10 ratio which many manufacturers use in mobile devices and since a few are switching to 16:9 now it can be ambiguous.

Oh for God's sake...
I mean, I understand that Microsoft probably paid them for it, but then I can't help but fear the worst for their new "revolutionary UI". Could it be that it's just a heavily skinned WM 6.5? If so, then I doubt it will be very revolutionary at all (other than it may cause LG users to revolt).
What I cannot understand is why LG expects to release this sort of info and get a positive reaction. Let's hope that someone else nails them for their mistakes this year.
I've had various Sony phones the last 5 years, WM looks great to me. There's so much more it can do than my phones could. Ok it ain't finger friendly, but I've never had a touchscreen phone. For me coming from this pretty basic Sony interface, would I end up bashing WM like everyone here always does? 6.5 looks cute.
