I know it was some time ago, but there were some videos of AMD chips catching fire and melting when the heatsink was removed, compared to Intels that were severely hindered, but managed not to overheat by underclocking themselves. These things stick in the mind, and it will take some time before I'd choose AMD over Intel.
875% is a meaningless statistic... what exactly does it mean? Percentages are expressed as numbers up to 100... Gordon miss a turn and go back to school...
Generally speaking AMD processors (in laptops) have more problems due to heat. This is more the manufactures fault for not accommodating for this. On the upside they have generally better integrated graphics.
Terry its not meaningless it means 8.75x the original figure however you are technically right and that it strictly should be only be used as a value up to 100.
Back to school Terry on 2 counts! - The 875% is not a statistic, but a financial metric or fact. Statistics relates to the science of making inferences about the whole based on measurements of a sample set. Nothing is this article is relevant to that as they were all basic comparisons of wholly measurable quantities.
Hi Guys... Gordon & Co, you're all still wrong...{Andrew excepted a little!} 875% is meaningless. Here is your headline: Intel Sees Earnings Skyrocket 8.75 times higher than before. Now that makes sense up to a point as we don't have an earnings figure? Previous earnings CAN be expressed as a percentage in terms of current earnings... NOT the other way round. So if current earnings are say £80 and they were earning £7 then former earnings are 8.75% of current earnings. Per cent is being misused... it's per 100... back to your abacus guys!
...there is no argument Gordon... % quotes above 100 are simply daft and meaningless... I simply feel percentages should be used properly... 875% is not 8.75x..... 8.75x however is 8.75x. As a figure of speech it's often used such as a footballer that says he gave 110% but mathematically and logically it loses all sense of meaning above 100. I really hope this has provided food for thought for anyone that misuses percentages. If 85% of the population used percentages correctly that would be brilliant! Hope this helps! Cheers!
