@Brian - a standard 5,400rpm laptop hard drive will read data at about 70MBps and write at about half that. It's a big difference!

@ilovethemonkeyhead - looks like it won't have to be that way for long though...

PS - I revise my 5,400rpm speeds too. It's pointed out to me 70MBps read is overly generous and should be closer to 50/55MBps according to a number for readers. So there you go Brian - the difference is EVEN bigger ;)

Generally it would be good if you could give a real world comparision to current technologies. For example last week you had a story about the new intel i7 chips, but i was none the wiser about what was so special about them.

It would be good if you could say more power/speed/etc compared to X, this would make things easier to understand.
