According to Gizmodo, the Cell itself isn't being cancelled, just the successor to the PowerXCell-8i. Maybe their just rethinking the platform? With the exception of the PS3 & a Toshiba TV, I've not really seen it elsewhere.
@Turin - that's what the article is pointing out. You can't cancel the current Cell chip or there would be no more PS3 sales! Cancelling its successor means there is no long term plans to further develop future Cell CPUs and it will eventually die off over time.
Talk about jumping the gun, it's not being canceled their just skipping a generation, this smacks more of sensationalism reporting rather than the usual trusted news that this site supposed to promote.
