This really stupid.. but they have 175 million users and there are a lot of equally stupid people out there... so it might end up being smart.
If only 2% of total users spend $5.. that's $17.5 million. Not to be sniffed at. If they have a system where people can buy things with those credits there will be an even larger percentage of users try it out.

just look at the amount of money people spend on the (Fluff)Friends application on Facebook! My girlfriend is rather skilled at getting everything without spending any money, but some people complain on the forums on how they've had their cards taken away by partners for spending too much money on it! Some people easily spend upwards of $100 a month on there!
More chance of a lead baloon taking off - the way Facebook has changed recently means that you get a load of twoddle as soon as you sign in to your profile (ie...the sheer amount of friend's comments and what apps and any other crap they took part in ... yawn!!!) - however, you will always find some twats on Facebook who would be up 4 that sort of thing and would be willing to pay for credits to comment, my verdict: avoid :(
