I couldn't agree more about the innovation from Dyson - when I compare him with Alan Sugar, I see no contest. In a sane world celebrity would based on your contribution to human knowledge, not your ability to shout at people.
He seems like a cross between the two Sirs, Clive Sinclair and Alan Sugar. A British inventor who knows how to market his products? Shurely shome mishtake?
Still using an early DC01 (The phone number on the "Contact us" label is geographical!). The amount of crap it can pick up still amazes (and slightly worries) me.
mmm, two mentions of Alan Sugar. Alan got were he was from walking over people, our company had dealings with him many years ago, how that monster ever got a "Sir" is beyond me.

Keith:
Are you talking about Alan Sugar, or James Dyson here? I have seen several suppliers put out of business by him and hundreds made redundant for no other reason than to get him more money. He's not short of it, even now but is still making those working on his products in England redundant to employ cheaper workers in Malaysia, China and India instead. In fact the first batch of redundances when production was moved to Malaysia happened the day after the queen visited his factory. So tell my why he deserves to be called "sir".
Dan:
Don't worry, it isn't even SRM, its just brushed magnet DC - You can see the permanent magnet in the picture (It'll be the silver part above the copper coils of wire). Dyson doesn't even say that it is SRM.
While I don't feel qualified to comment on either Sugar or Dyson's moral character, I did read the article, which quoted Dyson:
"It's completely different technology. We are the only company in the world producing a switched reluctance motor. What's odd is that we have used it in such a prosaic product."
... Which would appear to be James Dyson saying these news vacs do use SRM.
