@Luan Back - 3.5" drives are more power thirsty than you might think, especially on spin up. They can easily draw over 5W, whereas as you state the max for a USB device is 2.5W (5V x 500mA). A modestly sized LCD monitor using high efficiency lowish brightness LED backlighting could quite easily come in under 2.5W, especially if fitted with circuitry to store some charge to meet surge demands in output (maybe startup, maybe quick changes in large areas of the screen) without exceeding the rated input current.

nice idea. might be useful for displaying the time, and other widgets logitechs's gamng keyboards, do too. i always hated looking down from the screen with the g15 keyboard. not cool.
I'll take 10. I can't think what I'll use them for, but if it helps make my workstation look more like the BatCave, then it's no bad thing.
Seriously though - awesome idea. As a Visual Studio developer, I love the idea of having a dedicated screen for each development window. One for code, one for controls, one for explorer, one for output, one for finding things, one for debugging, one for email, one for tweets, one for torrents, etc...
I suppose the difference between paying for one of these and paying roughly the same for a 17" monitor is simply that sometimes smaller is better, and the lack of VGA/DVI ports or available wall sockets could be an issue...
