" Completely Automated Public Turing test to tell Computers and Humans Apart "
Hmmm - I can see the reading glasses coming out over the land as people try to log in to their routers! - Some CAPTCHA tests on-line are more like GOTCHA'S in readability terms... I must not be human I guess ;)
@Chocoa - It doesn't help if you're colourblind too (as I am). I think the worst CAPTCHA, was the one that used to be on the Rapidshare web-site, where you had to count how many cats/dogs you saw.
Waste of time, the only reason these things work at all is that they're used for relatively inconsequential things like forums that only stupid spammers bother with in the first place. Start using them for something important and the genuine criminals will have a bypass within a week (or more likely, already have the code in place for just this eventuality).
@Xiphias - to be fair while you say "genuine criminals will have a bypass within a week" - that's no reason not to offer a free upgrade to owners with this protection now.
