Hmm, exactly what is image resolution and bit depth when the camera is framing at 1000fps? Also you state that it can take 7-megapixel images at 40fps, then later state that it tops out at 1280x720 at 30fps. The res 1280x720 is only 921600 pixels (0.9216-megapixels), nowhere near 7-megapixles. There’s something screwy going on here! Either way, though not bad, it’s not in the same league as these dreamy high-speed digital cameras, http://www.kurzzeit.com/.
"Also you state that it can take 7-megapixel images at 40fps, then later state that it tops out at 1280x720 at 30fps"
-Can shoot STILL images at 7megapixels @ 40fps and VIDEO at 30fps at 1280x720
_Video play at 30fps and at a vastly reduced resolution. It's not a contradiction, just video instead of still frame (hollywood movies play @ 24fps)
-He said it "tops it off with.." rather than "tops out"
-As for "full HD" ...who knows. 720 v 1080 is about about as pertinant to image quaility in video as the "mega pixel race" is to still images.
-Resolution at 100ofps will no doubt be low and kinda gloomy!
The fact this has a CMOS sensor has made me sit up, this is a first on a super zoom camera to my knowledge. I am only interested in stills so this camera is interesting to me. I look forward to a in depth review.
1000 fps is for the "burst mode", which means taking STILL PHOTOS at high speed. And that it does (hopefully :)) very well.
30 fps is for the video or "motion picture", if you know what I mean.
A video, when played back at 30 (or even 24) fps, produces a series of photos (progressive, the "p" of 720p) in quick succession (30 photos in 1 second). And since they are in motion, we usually don't get to see the "drawbacks" in each individual image (unless paused) like noise etc. So, a 10 second, 30fps video clip would require 300 images to be played back. If the images are "high resolution", less compressed ones, then they would require massive storage space and also very good hardware to playback smoothly. Therefore, videos are NOT made of 8 or 10 MP images, and are kept at reasonably good frame rates, which happen to be 20 to 30FPS.
The "burst mode" is a very different thing. High-speed shooting is required for capturing a "blur-free", relatively clear shot of objects moving at very high speed. For example, you can take a decent, high res image of a raging splinter or bullet or even a slingshot or ball. Or, may be you want a snap of a hummingbird, without the blurring of it's flapping wings. So, you just do that 1000fps magic for a second or two, and you"ll definitely come up with a perfect snap. But That will almost surely cost you a vast space in your memory card. Now, imagine if you were to continue that for 60 min with audio ;)
P.S.
Very good competetion for the FZ28. But this camera too disappointed on the audio quality. But canon today proved me wrong - they are't deaf-and-dumb! The PowerShot SX10 IS meets 90% of my needs. I just hope they make it available soon, and make it AFFORDABLE... :)
I meant the The PowerShot SX1 IS with 10MP cmos sensor and FULL HD video, but that too seems to be continuing the "frustrate-the-potential-consumer" trend. They say it won't be able to use the zoom while recording video :(
ok I got one of these and im concidering taking it back if you want 1000fps its in video mode and is so small..
the hi speed 40fps is ok but not great. I bought a hd1080p cam to compare and its only 5meg routput is roughly the same only a little more grain from the camcorder wich shot at 60fps
the things I liked was the fly in fly out of scene option where the cam can be in stanby hi-speed and capture a bird or something that comes into view. then it only gives a 1 second burst no matter how big ur card is.. oh and btw it wouldnt take my 4 gig sd card.
I will prob take this back use the hd 1080p sd camcorder wich was £100 less until the technology gets better or cheeper..
If you want a cam get a cannaon nikon sony etc.. Hi speed prob better by video at hi frame rate and 60fps is comparable with this casio if thats what you want..
oh yes and theres no flash at hi speed too.
will post some pics for you to look at when there uploaded
