What is so annoying is that the standard SIM card and the carriers themselves, have the ability to support TWO SEPARATE phone numbers on a single SIM card.
Since the late 90's I had a 'Line Two' contract with Orange UK, for which I had a single phone handset containing a single SIM card. Pressing and holding the # key would toggle which line the phone would make outgoing calls on. Also, both lines were active for inbound calls all the time, so people could call me on either number, regardless of which outgoing line was currently set. Another benefit was that the second line cost me just £5 a month plus calls!
However, after 10 years or so Orange UK decided they didn't want to support this service any longer for obvious reasons... it's more lucrative for the handset manufacturers and the phone carriers to get you to use TWO handsets. That way they can charge you for two full contracts and sell you two devices.
So, the technology has been there for a long time but the profiteering attitude of the phone companies means we'll never see it again.
Do we have a report of anyone who actually managed this? Ditto for the previous "cut a notch out of your sim card" report - any successful reports?
I hate carrying 2 handsets with me all the time.. both are work mob and one is for receving one is for calling... i know it sounds complicated but there are far more things in the world are like this...lol
sadly my iphone 1g doesnt work with 3 and there is no unlock for 3g version.
I would like to add that both numbers are NOT online at the same time. I bought this adapter from http://www.usbfever.com/index_eproduct_view.php?products_id=846 and it stated in the description "Both numbers are online simultaneously". I recieved the adapter they would only work one at a time however it just made it a little easy to switch without switching the phone off. I emailed them and they sent me this reply:
"For the description "Both numbers are online simultaneously", from my understanding, it means 2 numbers in 1 mobile, not mean to you can have 2 numbers using at the same time. Anyway, it seems the sentence leads people to think as what you think.
To make less misunderstading, we've removed the sentence and will check with technician and let's get back to you later.
Sorry for the inconvenience caused."
I have been on the website since and it has been removed. Total balls..
