I love the use of icons next to every news item and story on your front page, it enables me to filter the information quickly without reading. I see a printer, I move on... not interested.
In fact this simple fact has made me read TrustedReviews more than say TheRegister even though their coverage of all things IT is probably better when not in the pure product space.
However when you cover a fair like CES, you ditch the icons!!!! They all have the same icon, forcing me to have to read the titles!!! Please make an effort to keep providing icons which represent products. Basically, at this point with so many CES articles, I tend to ignore most of them. You can thumbnail the corner of an icon with CES to let people know it's linked to the fair.
We totally see where you're coming from. However, there are two problems:
1. When you're at a trade show, time is of the essence - 7am starts and 3am finishes are par for the course - so taking the time to make a thumbnail can really eat into your sleeping time, especially if it's a story that doesn't actually feature any product shots so you have to go trawling the web for a company logo or such like.
2. A lot of the stories don't have images that convert well to thumbnails. Unless you happen to get hold of a stock shot of a product or can take one with the product isolated in front of a white background, it's near impossible to make out what it is from a thumbnail.
Thus, to keep consistency all stories use the same thumbnail.
Back on the topic of 3D TV has the issues of not wanting to bork on the floor after hours of 3d fun with or without glasses been addressed yet? - I presume its all about motion sickness or maybe the lack of it (body motion that is).
As I for one would have no plans to invest ( in the future) should you need a bucket aside the sofa for that ultimate in 3d expereince;)
Not that I mind really as I tend to read the RSS feed anyway, but you could always make a generic silhouette thumbnail of printer / TV / camera / phone etc. and keep the CES logo in the other half as Daniel said, which of course you could do beforehand too.
