Now all they need to do is change the name. I hate iAnything with an i in front of it is so cheap and lazy, and apart from iPlayer, such products can usually be immediately discounted.
"As a result with now have to port the iPlayer into 23 different flavours. They all using different codecs, different file formats, because they are think their codec is going to make a difference."
@Gordon: Oh, I'm much more forgiving on sentence structure than I used to be (you have nooo idea), however these segments confused me:
"As a result with now" --> surely should have been "we now".
"They all using different codecs" --> "They all use different codecs" or "are all using".
"they are think their codec" --> "they think their codec".
On-topic though: this is a good thing, as long as they fix the iPlayer on my Wii! I can't watch Mock the Week late at night any more unless I want to chance waking my wife!
Speaking of which: Doesn't the new MSN Video host series from both BBC and Channel4? I only took a quick look a couple of weeks ago, but I was also confused by the fact they're using Flash video. Surely they should be using WMV!
P.S. Joost also has a bit more content these days.
I am still waiting for a hard-drive recorder manufacturer to add iplayer to their function list. Can't believe no-one has done this yet. Someone please correct me cos I'd love to buy it.
I wonder if 'iPlayer Coronation Street' is more because ITV's player has the much less memorable yet similar name of 'ITVPlayer' and people are just using iPlayer as a generic term than because they actually want it via iPlayer rather than ITVPlayer.
Would be nice if the BBC fixed the HD first 3mbit AVC for 720p is very poor.
Hopefully they get some C4 content like Skins as I really don't want to d/l 4OD. Also what are they going to do for people like me who are abroad for 6-7 months of the year but still pay the licence fee?
Xiphias: I don't know about that. Have you actually tried using ITVPlayer? Not only would I rather watch programmes through iPlayer; I'd rather watch them on an old black and white set, detuned, while being hung upside down by my toes. It's truly appalling. Channel 4's is better, but the iPlayer has them beat by a long shot (although ISPs are doing their best to ruin it).
