I used to use my HP PDA as a remote control years ago. If it's go an infrared port, you can use it to transmit like a universal remote. It was quite cool, you could walk into bars and start channel surfing :)

So it's a bit like Touchpad Pro (for the iPod Touch or the iPhone)?

That uses VNC as the underlying protocol and with a server side plugin can control iTunes, Media Center, Winamp, WMP, VLC...

Or like ngRC (admitedly that works through a web interface)?

Signal from www.alloysoft.com already does this pretty well, and being a service running on the PC/Mac, is not limited to just apple mobile device, as it simply provides a URL on your wireless network. Having said that a standalone app equivalent would be nice.

Sailing Clicker is somthing i came acorss recently which allowed for the control of Itunes/Powerpoint through either Bluetooth or Wifi from loads of devices - its extreamly usefull when presenting ! www.salling.com/Clicker/windows/
